What is Panel Gapping and Alignment?

Panel gapping is the process of adjusting panel fitment between areas such as door to fender, fender to hood, or trunk lid to quarter panel. for metal body cars this would mean grinding/welding to add or remove material from the panels edges to create a uniform gap.

Example of bad panel alignment and Panel gapping on this fiberglass hood to plastic front bumper. this picture is prior to panel gapping and alignment.

the same dodge magnum with the fiberglass hood reshaped and panel gapped to fit the oem front bumper.
